Montfort Lay Associates of Kenya Undertake a Mission Visit to Mulot Parish – November 2025

The Montfort Lay Associates of Kenya, guided by their core mission to make the Blessed Virgin Mary known, loved, and better understood through apostolate work, undertook a significant pastoral visit to Our Lady of Visitation Parish in Mulot, under the Catholic Diocese of Ngong. The parish—situated approximately 200 kilometres from Nairobi—is the future home of a proposed Marian Shrine, Our Lady Queen of Peace, which is set to be developed and entrusted to the Company of Mary (Montfortian Missionaries).

Work toward establishing the shrine is progressing steadily, with preliminary preparations such as infrastructure planning and organized pilgrimages already underway. The Mulot community continues to play an important role in creating a spiritual environment for what is expected to become a major centre of Marian devotion in the region.

Journey and Purpose

A delegation comprising four Lay Associates and one Religious Brother departed Nairobi before dawn to ensure timely arrival for the 10:00 a.m. Holy Mass. The visit was prepared in close consultation with the Montfort Fathers in Nairobi and carried out collaboratively with Fr. Horrice, SMM, and Fr. Amos, SMM, both stationed in Mulot under the Company of Mary.

The mission centred on strengthening faith, fostering Marian devotion, and offering sacramental support to the parish community.

Engagement With the Faithful

During the Eucharistic celebration, the Montfort Lay Associates were invited to address the congregation. They introduced themselves and shared the identity and purpose of the Lay Associates, emphasizing:

  • Mary’s role in the Catholic Church
  • The power and meaning of the Holy Rosary
  • The path of consecration to Jesus through Mary
  • The relevance of Montfortian spirituality in daily Christian life

Following the address, Mary Kiragu, a Lay Associate, presented sacramental gifts to the parish. These included 17 statues of Our Lady of Grace intended for distribution among Small Christian Communities, as well as numerous rosaries to be shared with individual parishioners. The gesture brought great joy and spiritual encouragement to the faithful.

Youth Formation and Dialogue

After Mass, the team met with approximately 50 young people, aged between 13 and 35. This session focused on spiritual formation, vocational awareness, and deepening an understanding of Montfortian spirituality.

  • Brother Anthony Esamuriat, SMM, offered an insightful talk on the call to priesthood and encouraged the youths to remain open to God’s guidance.
  • George, a Lay Associate, delivered a brief yet thoughtful presentation on the Montfortian Charism, touching on Mary’s role as intercessor, the significance of purity of intention, and the meaning of the Cross and Christian suffering within Montfortian spirituality.
  • Susan Kilobia, also a Lay Associate, explained the essence of Consecration to Jesus through Mary, one of the key pillars of Montfortian spiritual life.

George further pledged that the Lay Associates would return to Mulot for a full-day session dedicated to teaching and deepening Montfortian Spirituality among the youth.

Pamela Owiti, another Lay Associate, concluded the youth engagement by thanking the young people and their leaders for their warm reception. She encouraged them to embrace spiritual discipline from a young age, assuring them that such commitment would shape their lives in meaningful and fulfilling ways.

Hospitality and Conclusion of the Visit

At the end of the youth forum, the delegation was invited to the parish priest’s residence for lunch. Fr. Horrice, SMM, hosted the team and joined them shortly thereafter, offering warm hospitality and engaging fellowship.

The Lay Associates then presented Father Horrice with additional gifts as a sign of their gratitude and solidarity with the Mulot community. The priest expressed sincere appreciation for their kindness and ongoing support to the parish.

A Mission Renewed

As the team made their return journey to Nairobi, there was a shared sentiment of gratitude and fulfillment. The visit had strengthened bonds of faith, encouraged deeper Marian devotion, and opened doors for continued collaboration—especially in nurturing the spiritual lives of young people.

The Montfort Lay Associates look forward to returning to Mulot soon, united in the spirit of St. Louis de Montfort and committed to helping build a vibrant Marian-centered faith community in the Diocese of Ngong.

They expressed strong commitment to returning soon—particularly for the promised youth seminar that will further strengthen the partnership between the Montfort Lay Associates and the Mulot parish under the Company of Mary
